Concern over funding for councils

Local councils across the Forth Valley could go bankrupt, if Scottish Government funding is not increased.

That's the warning from council body COSLA.

Scottish council leaders are urging ministers to improve funding for local authorities.

COSLA says without additional funding, councils will face "tough choices" - and could cut back on essential services.

Falkirk Council's needing to plug a £64 million budget gap over the next five years, and is to close, or sell, more than 100 buildings.

Stirling Council has proposed reducing the school week for primary pupils - they're needing to make £13 million of savings next year.
