New project aims to provide support for bereaved

Written by on October 4, 2019

We’re taking a closer look at NHS Forth Valley’s new initiative, which aims to tackle isolation and loneliness for people in the local area who have recently lost a loved one.

NHS Forth Valley Bereavement Service Co-ordinator, Sheena McCorrie says, “Often taking the first step to come to a club like this can appear daunting.

“But we believe it will provide a great opportunity to share the burden with others who may be going through a similar experience.

“Loneliness is very much a 21 st century problem and after losing a loved one people often feel alone and don’t know where to turn to.

“We are hoping to provide a shoulder for them to lean on.”

The club will also be able to signpost people to additional services if they feel in need of extra support.

Our reporter Andrew Baxter went along to today’s first session, as Paul Philbin explains:

The club will meet on the first Friday of every month from 10am to 12 noon. The next meeting in the diary are:

Friday 1st November – Falkirk Golf Club, 136 Stirling Road, Camelon.

Friday 6th December – Falkirk Golf Club, 136 Stirling Road, Camelon.

If you’d like to attend a session – or simply want more information – either call 01324 614307 or email FV-UHB.bereavementservice@nhs.net
