Efforts to restore heat in Falkirk area “ahead of schedule”

Written by on December 2, 2019

SGN say their efforts to reconnect gas supplies across the Falkirk area are “well ahead of schedule”.

But they admit it will take their engineers “a couple of days” to reach everyone, with vulnerable residents being prioritised.

People living in Larbert, Carronshore and Langlees, among others, were left without heat due to the fault.

A statement on their website read, “Following incredible efforts from our engineers over the past 36 hours, we’ve now begun reconnecting gas supplies to homes across the Bainsford, Carron, Carronshore, Larbert, Langlees, New Carron Village, Skinflats and Stenhousemuir areas of Falkirk.

“Our engineers will be revisiting each affected property to reconnect your gas supply, which involves carrying out safety checks.

“It’s important you don’t try to turn on your gas supply yourself.

“We have more than 8,000 properties to visit and it will take us a couple of days to reach everyone.

“We’re prioritising those most vulnerable members of the community first, but we’ll be making every effort to get gas back on to everyone’s homes as soon as possible.”

Thousands of people have been left without heat due to the fault, with electric heaters and hotplates handed out at Camelon Community Centre.

Meanwhile, Falkirk Council have confirmed the majority of schools and nurseries will re-open tomorrow – but a few institutions will remain closed.

Bainsford Primary, Kinnaird Primary and the Larbert Early Learning and Childcare Centre will all still be shut on Tuesday.
