Alloa Town Hall plaque to mark Beatles gig

A plaque is set to be unveiled at Alloa Town Hall - to mark the first ever gig the Beatles played in Scotland.

The Fab Four appeared at the venue on May 20th 1960.

At that time they were known as the "Silver Beetles" - and were joined by Stuart Sutcliffe.

The bid to install a plaque has been led by lifelong fans Malcolm Robinson and Robert Ferguson.

"The very first time the Beatles in Scotland was at Alloa Town Hall. That clearly requires the placement of a plaque there, and that's the idea behind it.

"Alloa being the first place in Scotland where the Beatles performed really will provide an interesting reason for people to come and attend, and look at the plaque at Alloa Town Hall.

"It really is a big, big thing for the people of Alloa - as well as Clackmannanshire and Scotland as a whole."
