16 Days of Action

Get involved in Forth Valleys stance against Gender Based Violence and make 'Imagining a Scotland without Gender Based Violence' closer to our reality!

Starting on the International Day Against Violence Against Women on 25 November and ending on International Human Rights Day on 10 December, the 16 Days of Action campaign links these issues together and emphasise that gender-based violence is a violation of human rights.

In Forth Valley, the 16 Days are marked by a diverse programme of events organised by Stirling, Falkirk and Clackmannanshire councils, local organisations and Health and Social Care Partnerships. It includes activities, from workshops and talks to art installations and public engagements.

You can view the full programme and sign up for events here:

We use Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Gender Based Violence (GBV) to refer to a range of actions that harm, or cause suffering and indignity to, women and children. These include but are not limited to:

  • Physical, sexual and psychological violence in the family, general community or institutions. This includes domestic abuse, rape, incest, stalking, child sexual abuse and exploitation.
  • Sexual harassment and intimidation at work and in public.
  • Commercial sexual exploitation including prostitution, pornography and trafficking.
  • So called 'honour based' violence, including dowry-related violence, female genital mutilation, forced and child marriages and 'honour' crimes.
  • Technology enabled harm including sexual abuse imagery, non-consensual sharing of intimate images and sextortion.

Forth Valley Local Highlights

Young People create a local banner to raise awareness of the campaign!

This banner was designed by the collective input of members of the Survivors Group and Autistic 'n' Awesome, a group of young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) supported by Central Advocacy Partners. This sparked valuable conversations amongst the young people who produced this banner, symbolising breaking the chains of violence across Forth Valley!

Feature 2

Violence against women and girls can take many forms. We know that children and adults across Scotland are experiencing physical, sexual and psychological harm. Ending this gender-based violence won’t happen without the support and active involvement from everyone in the community, including men and boys, and we are encouraging and welcoming everyone to get involved in the events and conversations.

Throughout the 16 days campaign, we’re raising awareness of what gender-based violence is and of the range of support organisations that are available to people. We would encourage anyone struggling with the impact of gender-based violence to reach out for support.
