A man has been charged after a union flag was burned at the Shieldhill War Memorial.
The vandalism was discovered on Saturday morning.
The memorial carries the names of 20 soldiers from World War One and nine from World War Two.
It is 100 years old - and the incident happened just days after D-Day commemorations.
Residents said the incident was "heartbreaking".
A Forth Valley Police statement says: "On the evening of Tuesday 18th June, the Braes CPT team traced & charged a male in relation to the recent Wilful Fire-raising that occurred at the Shieldhill War Memorial.
"We would like to thank the communities of California and Shieldhill for their assistance with this enquiry."
