Falkirk Council facing budget gap

Falkirk Council are to set out their spending plans next week - as they face a significant budget gap.

The local authority is needing to plug a £62.5 million budget gap over the next five years.

More than £30 million is needing to be saved over the next 12 months.

A report by Council officials says failure to consider the medium-term impact of decisions could lead to a "budget cliff edge" within the next few years.

Proposals include cutting spending on children's social work by £600,000 a year - and a possible 9% Council Tax rise in years to come.
