Falkirk schools to close due to strikes

Falkirk Council have confirmed all schools will shut during two national days of strike action.

Teachers are walking out on 28th February and 1st March, in a dispute over pay.

All schools and nurseries will shut on those two days.

In a statement, Falkirk Council say

"The Education Institute for Scotland (EIS), the Scottish Secondary Teacher Association (SSTA), the Association of Heads and Deputes (AHDS), and the NASUWT teacher union are undertaking a coordinated campaign of strike action in regard to their pay claim.

There will be a further 2 days of national strike action affecting schools on Tuesday 28 February and Wednesday 01 March 2023.

As a result of the strike action, the following school provision will be affected on the dates indicated:

28 February 2023 - all schools and nursery classes will be closed to pupils.
01 March 2023 - all schools and nursery classes will be closed to pupils.
Early Learning and Childcare Centres are not affected on any of these dates.
Where establishments are affected on these dates, pupils should remain at home.

Unfortunately, we will not be in a position to offer an online learning option to these pupils on the affected days.

Families of pupils remaining at home and who are eligible for Free School Meals based on the Scottish Government eligibility criteria (excluding those receiving a meal under the universal P1-P5 provision) will receive a retrospective meal payment."
